Market Street
Francis Frith 07/10/1822 - 25/02/1898
Summary
A view down Market Street, Manchester, from the Piccadilly end. This was a busy shopping street. The Rylands building dominates the photograph. Its ground floor is filled with retailers: Pingstone's, a hosier, glover, shirtmaker and gentleman's outfitter; a wine lodge; Cafe L'Europe and Harrison's tobacconists are the most visible. Lewis's store is opposite. Horse-drawn vehicles are making their way along the street, and the pavements are filled with striding pedestrians.
