Infirmary
Francis Frith 07/10/1822 - 25/02/1898
Summary
View looking across the Piccadilly and Portland Street junction towards Manchester Infirmary. A cart carrying bolts of cloth is crossing the junction, and there is a line of cabs waiting to the left. The infirmary dominates the image: it is a neoclassical building, with a tall portico on both visible sides, and a large domed clocktower. It is surrounded by a garden and wide path lined with small trees, Many people are sitting down on its perimeter wall which forms a low continuous bench. The statue of the Duke of Wellington is before them in the square outside the hospital grounds. The street is fairly busy with pedestrians and vehicles.
