Deansgate

Francis Frith 07/10/1822 - 25/02/1898

Summary

View down Deansgate, one of Manchester's principal streets. The scene is busy with horse-drawn and pedestrian traffic. A tram heading towards Weaste is in the middle of the road, narrowly missing a horse and cart turning left into John Dalton Street. The large late-nineteenth-century commercial building on the corner is the main architectural focus of the image: this is signed 'Queens Building Society' on the metalwork above the corner entrance.
