Victoria Hotel
Francis Frith 07/10/1822 - 25/02/1898
Summary
A view of the Victoria Hotel, later known as Victoria Buildings, Manchester. This vast 'Venetian' Gothic triangular building is seen in corner view, so that Victoria Street and Deansgate are equally seen on either side. Shop units occupy the ground floor, selling hats and umbrellas, amongst other goods. A sign around the corner of the building at third floor level reads, 'The Exchange Telegraph Company Limited'. There is some horse-drawn and pedestrian traffic on the streets, which seem to shine after a recent shower of rain. Victoria Buildings was damaged in an air raid in December 1940 and subsequently demolished.
