Design for a Lunette: Solomon (?)

Frederic James Shields 1833 - 1911

Summary

A robed male figure sits on a marble seat with his body turned slightly to the right and his right arm outstreched towards a female representation of an angel. The angel is handing the man a cylindrical object with its right hand whilst its left hand is on his left shoulder. The two figures are staring intently at each other. Behind the man's left shoulder a second angel holds a rod and an architectural plan of a temple or church. Both angels have wings and are lying on clouds. The male figure is wearing a cape and a hat and is holding a horn in his left hand.
