Sisterly Help

Frederic James Shields 1833 - 1911

Summary

Watercolour painting of a young girll helping her little brother to put on his shoes. Of this watercolour Shields wrote, 'I was pleased to learn that the Corporation have bought the 'Sisterly Help'. It is perhaps superior in executive qualities of pure transparent watercolour to anything I did up to that period.' (letter, Shields to CJ Pooley, 5/1/1893).
