Devota Profesion (Devout Profession)

Francisco Goya Y Lucientes 1746 - 1828

Summary

A goat-legged devil, with cloven hooves and a tail, carries a creature on his shoulders holding it by its ankles. It features large ears and a hair bum at the back of its head. With its hands clasped, it seems to be singing or reading from an open book, held by two figures sitting on the back of an eagle. These figures are wearing conical hats and hold the book with long pincers. To the bottom right, the heads of two more figures can be seen.
