Back Irwell Street, Manchester
Arthur Sherwood Edwards 1887 - 1960
Summary
A view looking down a street, buildings on both sides of the road are in ruins, and there is a pile of rubble on the right hand side. Manchester was particularly severely bombed by the Luftwaffe in late December 1940, and this image may be of the results of this 'Christmas blitz'. Edwards was an architect and sculptor who worked for Manchester City Council’s Architects Department.
