Summary

A view of a damaged building surrounded by rubble. Other buildings can be seen in the background, and there is a large crater in the foreground. Manchester was bombed by the Luftwaffe throughout World War Two. Arthur Edwards recorded this scene of destruction on Gartside Street (behind Spinningfields), where the left side of a house is in ruins and the interior is exposed. Edwards was an architect and sculptor who worked for Manchester City Council’s Architects Department.
