Old Buildings, Cross Lane, Salford
Summary
A view from across a stream or pool towards an old hall, distiguished by a decorative band of criss-cross patterned brickwork horizontally around its middle. The style of this soft-crayon lithograph is typical of HG James, who delighted in eccentric beams and tiled roofs made shaggy with plant growth. The dilapidated fence palings and woman leaning in a doorway that he often included in his views of old houses can also be seen here.
