Windsor Castle

Paul Sandby 1725 - 1809

Summary

Vast scene depicting Windsor Castle overlooking a wide river. The castle stretches across the background of the composition, with the central section standing upon a hill. To the far right, a church steeple is visible through the trees. Beneath the trees, on the river bank in the foreground, a peasant family sit together with two horses reigned to a fallen branch. On either side of the river on the right-hand side, buildings line the shore. In the centre of the river, two men in a rowing boat navigate their way with oars; to the left a moored sailing boat is visible. Trees surround the scene.
