Summary
A half-timbered inn with a tumbledown, uneven appearance is viewed from across a street. The inn is squeezed between the larger, newer buildings which surround it. It is 'Ye Olde Seven Stars', a public house, which according to the sign is, 'The oldest licensed house in Great Britain.' The etching has a variety of texture which emphasise the bricks of the pub's chimney, the tiles of its roof, and the stones and bricks of the surrounding buildings. A hazy scatter of dots all over gives the impression of great age or pollution. In the street a woman in a shawl carries a big basket, and to the left a small group of people gather.
