A Misty Day in Salford Docks

Gertrude Lake, 1858 - 1928

A Misty Day in Salford Docks

Gertrude Lake 1858 - 1928

Summary

A view across water on a misty day, looking towards two moored barges, and a small steam-powered boat, piloted by a small figure dressed in blue, sailing towards an iron swing bridge. In the middle distance on the left several boats with masts are docked. On the horizon are the outlines of industrial buildings. It may be that this work was painted in situ at Salford Docks, as the edges of its paper are perforated with holes, as though the artist had pinned it to a board for secure outdoor painting.
