Summary

View showing the front of a large nineteenth-century palazzo-style building that fillsl the image. This is Manchester's Free Trade Hall, built 1853-56. On the ground floor are nine curved arches, and at the bottom, in between each of these is a metal railing. On the first floor are nine curved arches with windows underneath. The windows are rectangular in shape, and flanked by decorative attached columns surmounted by triangular pediments. In the foreground at the centre are two horse drawn carriages, and at the left is a high-sided cart. Propped on the pavement are two placards which advertise future musical performances in the Hall, by Sims Reeves (1821-1900) and Charles Santley (1834-1922).
