Summary
A reproduction produced by the Vasari Society of a drawing by Raphael. The drawing shows the bust of a woman facing forwards and with her eyes lowered to the left. She is wearing a veil, which is fastened by an oval broach below her collarbone. Her hair is tied back with a centre parting. Text from the accompanying booklet produced by the Vasari Society: "No. 3 RAPHAEL (b. 1483; d. 1520) HEAD OF MADONNA British Museum. From the Otterly, Lawrence, Woodburn, King of Holland, and Malcolm Collections. SIlver-point on cream coloured prepared paper. 26.2 x 19.5 cm. (10 5/16 x 7 11/16 in.). This well known drawing, the so-called Sister of Raphael, is to be conencted with another study of the Madonna, holding a book, at Lille (Fischel, p.3, No. 4), and both belong to a group associated with the Solly Madonna at Berlin. The drawings at Lille and in the British Museum were once in the posession of the same person, who disfigured them with childish scrawls."
