Summary

Portrait of a woman and three children. Woman seated to the left, looking to the right wearing black gauze gown and large black hat with white feathers. Children to the right, two older girls and a young boy. The girls are holding the boy aloft. Girl to the right has dark brown hair in ringletts and faces to the right. Girl to the left of the group has blonde curly hair and is turning to face the boy. Landscape background with two columns to the left. Quotation in open etched letters. Sitter: Lady Charlotte Sophia Smith (British, died 1823) and her children George Henry, Louisa and Charlotte. This is one of a pair of prints. The accompanying print is 'Countess of Harrington and her Children' see 1945.45. It is a stipple engraving printed in colour and published 15 March 1789 by M. Bovi.
