View along the main road through a French village which is lined with shops. The paintwork comprises of thick strokes of bright and tonally varied colour, including some layering of colours. Impasto has been used to build the paint in thick layers. Charles Messant was a founding member of the Mid-Day Studios, painting alongside Lowry and others.
