Summary

Scene taken from Don Quixote (vol 1, book 1, chapter 2) depicting the 'Arrival at the supposed Castle'. Village scene with Don Quixote on horseback to the left in a full suit of reflective armour carrying a shield and lance, his squire Sancho Panza standing beside the horse's head to the left. Don Quixote looks over his shoulder toward two women standing to the right. Cottage and trees in the background to the right. The style of painting is quite loose, the colours are somewhat dark in tone with dull shades of brown dominating the work.
