The Embarkment

Philip Wilson Steer 1860 - 1942

Summary

Idyllic rural landscape with a group of four figures having a picnic on a sunlit river bank in the foreground. Two more figures sit in a punt on the river to the right, set against dense woodland on the bank opposite. The colours are naturalistic and reinforce the lush natural surroundings. The title of the work refers to the immanent boat trip.
