Edmund Cartwright, Inventor of the Power Loom
Thomas 'Oldham' Barlow 1829 - 1889
Summary
A bust-length portrait of Edmund Cartwright (1743-1823), inventor of the power loom. Cartwright is looking at the viewer with a frank expression. His light hair is brushed back, and he wears a dark, collared jacket and white neckcloth. Below the oval is a facsimile of his signature. This print retains the mount that it was given on January 22, 1925, by Edward Gleadhill, the foreman of the Horsfall Museum, an educational museum in Ancoats, Manchester.
