Manchester Town Hall, King Street
Summary
Image showing the front of Manchester's town hall in 1828, a large neoclassical stone building situated on King Street. Four massive fluted columns support a portico over the entrance, above which is a sculptural group of figures. The building is austere in appearance, with the architectural lines ruled straight, and the facade is not softened by any scattering of passers-by. The only street life to be seen down the roads to either side, where a cart and a carriage are just visible.
