The Timid Bather

Henry Le Jeune, 1819 - 1904

The Timid Bather

Henry Le Jeune 1819 - 1904

Summary

A genre painting of a young girl in a grey peasant dress is seated on the bank of a river, surrounded by wild growing grasses and angular rocks. She is nervously stretching her left foot as if about to dip her toes in the water. She is a typical english rose with bright, red rosy cheeks and pale skin. She earnestly glances up at the viewer. There is a dense woodland in the background coloured in rich green and brown colours.
