Summary

Coastal landscape. A bay sweeps across to the right , the sea and craggy coastline to the left. In the foreground is a rocky outcrop amongst which stands a female figure. To the right, moored on the sands, is a rowing boat; pairs of figures are dotted along the beach. The bay is framed by low, rocky hills, the most prominent of which is surmounted by Bamburgh castle; on the horizon, to the right, are houses.
