The Peterloo Massacre 1819 George Cruikshank 1792-1878 Watercolour drawing News of the Peterloo Massacre quickly swept through the rest of the country. Although George Cruikshank worked in London, and had not been an eyewitness to the event he based this drawing on news sheet reports. It was then sharpened up into a caricature and printed to reach a large number of people. Purchased 1924.36
