Heaton Park
Summary
A view of Heaton Hall from the south west, looking across parkland. Trees frame the hall, while sheep and cattle populate the scene. Two riders may be seen crossing the park on horseback in the middle ground, and a man and his dog idle beneath the tree in the right foreground. Heaton Hall is a stately home to the north of Manchester. It was designed for Sir Thomas Egerton by James Wyatt in 1772. This lithograph was made as an illustration for 'The mansions of England and Wales : illustrated in a series of views of the principal seats with historical and topographical descriptions by Edward Twycross', published by Ackermann and Co. in 1847-50. Manchester Art Gallery holds a second, cropped copy of this print, accession number 1935.3.
