Summary

Portrait, full-length, seated on a chair in a room, in front of shelves of books and next to a table with books; directed and facing to front, his right arm resting on papers on a portable writing desk; wearing a dark jacket, waistcoat, knee-length trousers, stockings, and spectacles; in the background on right, partial view of a mantelpiece and a painting on the wall; curtains on the left. Robert Hindmarsh (1759-1835) was founder of the Swedenborgian Society. He preached in Manchester from 1811 and had a 'temple' built in Salford 1813-1824 (retirement). Published by Thomas Agnew & Sons in 1824.
