Portrait of William Ewert (1798-1869), Reformer and Liberal politician; MP for Liverpool and Dumfries Burghs. He introduced the 1850 Bill to establish free libraries from public rates and the blue plaque scheme. He was also a close friend of the Gaskells. Published by Thomas Agnew in 1838.
