A Plan of the Town of Manchester in 800

J Wyatt

Summary

A copy of a map of Manchester in the year 800. The 'plan' part does not cover much ground. A church, a couple of houses, 'DEANS GATE' and the river Irwell are marked, but the map of 'Manchester' at this time is essentially just a couple of fields. There is a depiction of a town to the left, but this is more a view than a plan. A pointed compass occupies the top left and 'A SCALE OF STATUTE POLES' is below the image. To the right is a traveller approaching a church seen through trees. The title of the plan is given beneath larger, overhanging trees which frame this vignette.
