From the Red Room
Summary
An elongated trumpet shaped vessel of white porcelain decorated with dozens of fine red pin stripes. The stripes graduate in tone becoming progressively paler towards the top of the vessel. The slip has been applied in bands of progressively paler colour. Park uses the characteristically Korean sanggam decorative technique - incising clay whilst it is leather hard and inlaying it with liquid slip. Sanggam was generally used for floral motifs, but Park uses it for repeating pin-stripes. His absolute control of the decoration is further emphasised by carefully graduating the tones of slip and polishing the procelain to a silky sheen.
