Brereton Hall
Summary
Near Congleton. A fine irregular old pile, built in 1586, by one of the family of that name. The front has wings terminating in gables; and two octagonal towers in the centre, connected at the top by a singular semi-circular arch. The decorations of the Elizabethan bay windows are those of the rose and portcullis. In the interior there is a remarkable frieze, with the arms of the sovereigns of Europe, together with some curious inscriptions, and stained glass.
