Turton Tower

Turton Tower

Summary

Near Bolton. The residence of J. Kay, Esq. and the former residence of the Orrels, designated by Camden as "an illistrious family." It was sold by them to Humphrey Chetham. It is a picturesque irregular old building, originally intended for defence, with a tower of four stories, and an embattled parapet, not visable in the photograph, which includes the olded portions only. The drawing-room contains some good oak paneling.
