Harbour Scene

Karl Hagedorn 1889 - 1969

Summary

A harbour scene with a large, green moored sailing boat, with its sails furled, and two men on board. There are other somewhat indistinct vessels and simple waterfront buildings visible in the background, beyond the rigging of the ship. The boat is tied to stone pillars on the sunlit dock in the foreground, which curves round to the buildings behind. The painting is impressionist in style with some gestural marks, especially in the sky, which comprises of linear horizontal marks. The colours used are rich and display the effect of strong sunlight on the harbour.
