Manchester Art Museum Sketch Plan of Ground and First Floors

Manchester Art Museum Sketch Plan of Ground and First Floors

Summary

An architectural plan of Manchester Art Museum in Ancoats, Manchester, drawn by the City Architect of Manchester. The plan was made in 1918 - the time when the management of the Art Museum was passing into public ownship - ie from the subscription-funded Art Museum and University Settlement Committee to Manchester City Council. The plan covers only the Art Museum sections of Ancoats Old Hall, not the section which remained in the management of the University Settlement. It is labelled with the function of each room. Shortly after the plan was drawn, the museum's name was changed to The Horsfall Museum, after its founder, Thomas Coglan Horsfall (1841-1932).
