The Infirmary, Dispensary and Lunatic Asylum, Manchester.

The Infirmary, Dispensary and Lunatic Asylum, Manchester.

Summary

View of the Manchester Infirmary with the Lunatic Asylum to the left. These are substatial buildings in the Georgian style, rectangular and imposing, with many windows. The infirmary is surmounted by a clock and a cupola with a weather vane. The view is across the infirmary pond, on which swim two swans. Beside this long pool passers by are meeting and talking. The engraving has been coloured by hand, the green of the bright grass and dark trees contrasting with the pale brown buildings and pink and red accents on the clothing of the people.
