Bramall Hall, Cheshire
Summary
A view of Bramall Hall, near Stockport in Cheshire, painted in 1857. The view shows the exterior of the great hall and withdrawing room of this black-and-white timber-framed Tudor manor house. The image is naively painted, rendering the hall's windows in a regimented manner, as if drawn using a ruler. Even the two-storey bay window is difficult to understand as three-dimensional here. The hall is surrounded by rolling countryside, with a bridge, hills, and trees visible in the distance, and large trees dominating the foreground.
