Summary

Man, head and shoulders; brown wig, white shirt and cravat, dark red coat with collar. Narrow oval silver and gold frame with loop, decorated on front edges with chased floral design, back slightly concave; glazed. Believed to be a portrait of Robert Thyer; Brasenose, Oxford. Chethams Librarian 1732-63. m. St. Ann's Church 1741. d. 1781 also poet. See similar portrait by Romney at Chetham's Hidden at Heaton Hall after '45.
