Summary

Aerial view across Kirkcudbright, painted from the Silvercraigs looking across the old town and the estuary of the Dee. There are clustered buildings and a church spire in the foreground to the right, and hazier silhouetted outlines interspersed with dark trees to the left. The meandering river and estuary are in the background to the right, with shadowy rolling hills beyond. The buildings comprise of a patchwork of purple and brown colours, whereas in contrast the sky is a light blue colour. The Dee which flows in the middle ground separates these two areas with golden tones.
