Design for a Silver Monstrance

Massimiliano Soldani-Benzi 1656 - 1740

Summary

Design for a monstrance with a circular void at the top to hold the host. The void is surrounded by cherubic heads and clouds with lines suggesting rays of light projecting from the outside edge. A naked infant standing on a decorative pedastal forms the base of the object. Closely related to silver monstrances in the Medici Chapels, S. Lorenzo and in the Compagnia del Santissimo Sacramento, Fagna.
