Summary

A reproduction produced by the Vasari Society of a drawing by Wolfgang Traut. The drawing is on a teal coloured paper. In the foreground is a nude female figure, covering her modesty with some leaves. She is gesturing towards a man who is sitting against a rock on the ground, resting his face on one hand and pointing towards the woman with the other. There is a cluster of trees behind the woman, and next to these are two nude figures, apparently infants dancing or embracing one another. Some houses are visible in the distance. Text from the accompanying booklet produced by the Vasari Society: "14. WOLFGANG TRAUT (Worked at Nuremburg; d. 1520) MYTHOLOGICAL OR ALLEGORICAL SUBJECT DATED 1507 Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. Bequeathed to the University by Mr. Francis Douce, 1834. Pen and ink and wash on a greenish-blue prepared paper, heightened with white. 12.6 x 8.7 cm. (4 15/16 x 3 7/16 in.). Those who are familiar with Traut's woodcuts will recognize in this drawing the typical foliage of his best authenticated works, while the mode of signature on a stone is found elsewhere about the same date (e.g. St. George, 1508, woodcut in the Liechtenstein Collection). His drawings are rare, and I do not know of any other extant specimen in this technique. C. D."
