The Journey of Icarus II - The Pink Tower

Michael Oelman 1941

Summary

A rural landscape with a pink tower to the right and a figure with wings flying at the upper centre. There is a conical shape at the bottom centre edge with a long flag pole attached to the top. A river edged with reeds can be seen at the lower part of the composition, and towards the left side four white birds fly directly up from the horizon. The winged figure - that of the mythical character Icarus - hovers over the scene with his arms outstretched to either side and his legs behind him pointing towards the right of the composition. The fields below him are divided into blocks, in some of which there is nothing growing.
