Summary

Dr Charles White (1728-1813) was an eminent Manchester surgeon. He was a co-founder of the Manchester Royal Infirmary and St Mary's Hospital in 1790. He was also a founder member of the Manchester Literary and Philosophical Society where he was also Vice President. He was also the author of several works published between 1762 and 1779. He published the earliest scientific study of human races in 1779. For the original oil painting of Dr Charles White by Joseph Allen, see 1920.522.
